Miranda & Joe & Two Little Ones: Family Engagement Session at Knox Farm State Park

On a warm sunny Sunday afternoon, we met up with Miranda, Joe and their two little girls for an adventurous family-style engagement session at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora. At the outset, when we initially met Miranda and Joe to discuss their wedding day photography, they brought along two special little ladies in their life--Lily and Bailey. After spending just a few minutes with this family, we knew that no conventional engagement session would do. We dropped the idea of a "family" engagement photography session, and everyone was instantly on board.

What an adventure was in store for us! We had no shortage of action and antics as we strolled around the park taking photographs of the entire family.

This series of shots summarizes the feel of the day, with the girls much more interested in playing games and picking flowers than posing for a photo! Who can blame them? But from time to time they appeased us, wandering into frame just long enough for a family shot or two :)

We spent part of our time scouting out a particular bent tree that the family remembered from the year before. What a find! Even Bailey could climb a little! It made for some of our favorite photos of the afternoon.

Another part of our adventure was playing in the grass. Well as it turns out, shortly after posing for the shot below, Joe quickly discovered his intense allergy to grass! We love the way the shot turned out - so we like to think it was worth it!

Joe and Miranda met through Miranda's cousin at a Bills game, seven years and two kids ago. "We don't take too much too seriously... We are better friends than anything else," Miranda says. "He's a good guy. He tries to take care of everybody, even though the girls try to teach him a thing or two." True!

The Banks Family Portrait Session at Beaver Island State Park

As photographers, one of our favorite things is having the privilege to welcome back past clients and friends. Life is a journey, and it moves fast--sometimes too fast! The little ones are in baby shoes one minute, and cap & gown the next! But we love being a part of the journey, and capturing a few memories along the way.

Although it seemed like just yesterday, it had actually been close to three years since our initial family portrait session with the Banks family. So we were very happy to have the opportunity meet up with them again for some updated family portraits.

A few clouds looming in the distance didn't stop us from heading over to Beaver Island State Park for a fun Fall family portrait session. We were instantly off to a great start.

We can't believe how much these kids have grown up!

The rain moved in toward the end of our shoot, to keep us punctual :) Otherwise, who knows how long we might have continued shooting with this really handsome family!

Banks Family - thanks for venturing out with us, and allowing us to capture some really nice family portraits. We had a great time - and can't wait to do it again!

The Brown Family: Yates Park/Green Lake Portrait Session

When their Mom & Dad (Jeff & Patsy) reached a milestone anniversary of 35 years, Phil & Stephanie wondered, what could be the best gift they could give to two people who have everything they need? They decided on a family portrait session that their parents always wanted but never had. What a beautiful idea! You can imagine our enthusiasm to accommodate such a loving gift.

These folks picked a location close to home and heart -- Yates Park (Green Lake) in Orchard Park. After a couple of reschedules due to dicey weather, the rain stopped and the clouds parted just enough for us to have a fun and memorable shoot. We were all very thrilled about that!

We started our shoot at the foot of Green Lake, and fell totally in love with this family's interaction. The pride and joy of this family is definitely little Miss Emma--who, for now anyway, holds the title of the sole grandchild. She was brave enough to venture off with one of us (Deanne) just a few feet away from her family to play a little bit in the park. We started at the swing she knows very well -- the one she and her Grandma Patsy have frequently shared. Then we played with leaves and collected a few fascinating acorns. So much fun! Meanwhile, the other half (Tim) captured a few more photographs of the grown-ups before reuniting the family again for some shots near the reservoir. The fall leaves on this day beautifully accented their family bond! Thanks Browns--we had such a great time photographing your family! We were honored that you chose us to commemorate your family milestone - we certainly hope it's just the beginning of many more!
