Miranda & Joe & Two Little Ones: Family Engagement Session at Knox Farm State Park

On a warm sunny Sunday afternoon, we met up with Miranda, Joe and their two little girls for an adventurous family-style engagement session at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora. At the outset, when we initially met Miranda and Joe to discuss their wedding day photography, they brought along two special little ladies in their life--Lily and Bailey. After spending just a few minutes with this family, we knew that no conventional engagement session would do. We dropped the idea of a "family" engagement photography session, and everyone was instantly on board.

What an adventure was in store for us! We had no shortage of action and antics as we strolled around the park taking photographs of the entire family.

This series of shots summarizes the feel of the day, with the girls much more interested in playing games and picking flowers than posing for a photo! Who can blame them? But from time to time they appeased us, wandering into frame just long enough for a family shot or two :)

We spent part of our time scouting out a particular bent tree that the family remembered from the year before. What a find! Even Bailey could climb a little! It made for some of our favorite photos of the afternoon.

Another part of our adventure was playing in the grass. Well as it turns out, shortly after posing for the shot below, Joe quickly discovered his intense allergy to grass! We love the way the shot turned out - so we like to think it was worth it!

Joe and Miranda met through Miranda's cousin at a Bills game, seven years and two kids ago. "We don't take too much too seriously... We are better friends than anything else," Miranda says. "He's a good guy. He tries to take care of everybody, even though the girls try to teach him a thing or two." True!

Joe and Miranda - we absolutely love how this shoot turned out - so glad you were up for something a little different! We're looking forward to seeing you again in a couple months at your Klock's Grove wedding!

Kallie & Adam's Country Fields & Coffee House Engagement Session in East Aurora

If there was one good thing about entering our fifth consecutive month of non-stop snow here in Buffalo, it was being able to give Kallie and Adam the country-themed winter engagement session that they really wanted. For all the brides-to-be who wished for a snowy, wintry engagement shoot this year--including Kallie--your wish was certainly granted! :)

We started our shoot at Knox Farm State Park in East Aurora. We must admit, the fields lightly covered in snow really did make for a beautiful scene.

These two met on Plenty O Fish, and after talking a few months, they had their first date. Adam says, โ€œWe had dinner, and that was enough to know that I wanted to ask her out again.โ€ He loves Kallieโ€™s personality. โ€œShe loves all the things I love, and sheโ€™s a country girl, farmerโ€™s daughter.โ€

โ€œHis blue eyes caught my attention!โ€ Kalle told us. โ€œI love his smile.โ€

We knew it would be cold that day, but we greatly underestimated the chill from the wind that whipped through these fields! It was not to be taken lightly! So we headed for the barn in hopes of a little reprieve from the wind.

When asked about the proposal Adam said, โ€œI feel like I knew it was the time more than she did. We always talked about 'when we're married...' I didn't feel that was official but...I wanted to surprise her.โ€

But Kallie caught on to Adamโ€™s every move! When Adamโ€™s brother got married, his family asked her to be in the family picture. His dad said, โ€œCome on in here, youโ€™re gonna be in the family soon!โ€ When out to dinner shortly after, he couldnโ€™t pick up the tab because he had just spent a lot of money onโ€ฆer um, the snowmobile. Snowmobile??? โ€œI thought, our snowmobile is not worth anything!โ€ She says. โ€œSo after that, I knew, oh, he bought a ring.โ€

Adam was determined to pull off a stellar proposal at any rate, and that he did. He flew out to Portland (on three different planes) to meet Kallie, where she was visiting her sister. โ€œI obtained claustrophobia during that flight โ€“ that trip wore me down! I thought, this is like the movies when you get off and kiss the ground! โ€ฆShe knew I had the ring with me, because right after I got off the plane, I said, 'You can't go in my bag! I'll unpack my stuff myself.'โ€

Expected or not, at the end of the trip, Adam found the perfect time and place to propose. โ€œThe last full day, we went -- me, her sister, and Kallie -- to the Kiwi Farm in Dundee Hills. I thought, โ€˜this is gonna be the time, because it's GOTTA BE!โ€™ We start picking kiwisโ€ฆ they were perfect. You get clippers and drop them in the bucketโ€ฆI gave my clippers to her sister, and I got my phone readyโ€ฆ So I'm hunched down low taking a pictureโ€ฆand I said, โ€˜You know what would be better?โ€™ I pull out the ring. And she snatches it and says, โ€˜Of course I will!โ€™โ€

After a while, we all agreed it was time to head for a warm-up at The Taste back in town. But not before stopping for a couple shots in the alley off Main Street.

The Taste has the most extensive chalk-written list of coffees, teas, and specialty drinks, and so many decadent desserts to choose from. Without too much resistance, we persuaded Adam & Kallie into sharing a piece of chocolate cake over coffee. Sweet! :)

Before wrapping up the night, of course, we had to get "one more shot" in that alley. We think it was worth it.

Adam & Kallie, thanks for a great shoot! As much fun as we had in the snow, we can't wait for warmer days ahead for your 2015 wedding at The Timberlodge!

Luke & Kelsey: Anniversary Shoot

On a beautiful Spring day, we had the privilege to meet up with Luke and Kelsey at Knox Farms, to photograph them for their 3rd wedding anniversary. After a rough start to Spring here in Buffalo, we were so thankful to have the most perfect weather you could want.

We started in the shade of this beautiful red dairy barn.

You could not buy this kind of chemistry. Absolutely beautiful together.

At the risk of sounding redundant, how good do these two look? We love these shots.

You two belong on a cover of a magazine! Wow!

We ended our shoot with a slow stroll along this lovely trail. Honestly, we couldn't have asked for a better shoot.

Luke and Kelsey, we had a great time with the two of you. It is so refreshing to be with two people who love each other so much, it shows in every photograph. We wish you many more years of happiness - and hope to catch you on a future anniversary! :)
